Bookmarks

I’ve taken a week out of my Easter break to develop an iPhone App.

It’s an old maxim of UNIX tools to “do one thing, and do it well”.

My thoughts are that this is even more important as a HCI guideline for writing iPhone applications. Owing to the fact we can only run one app at a time, and it takes up the whole screen, it makes much more sense for us to keep that app focused on a very specific task and hand off other tasks to other apps.

With that in mind, I designed (Virtual) Bookmarks. The ‘one thing’ mission statement of the app was rapid maintenance of page numbers. In other words, it was of utmost important to me that you could get your current page number at a glance and update it with the minimum amount of effort.

The experience of developing Bookmarks was mostly smooth. I already have some experience with Cocoa and Objective-C, so it wasn’t so new to me.

The real difficulties were in trying to find and fill in the necessary tax information on iTunes Connect. This process still isn’t finished and it looks like I will be at it for some time yet.
